All of us have heard stories from time to time that seemed too good to be true. Most of us have even been warned, “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!” It’s sad, really, that the greater the story, the greater the doubt we tend to have in its believability.
Back in the day, there was a wealthy new convert to this movement called “The Way” who had heard the stories about a man who did things that seemed too good to be true, and so he paid a follower of Jesus – a doctor, no less – to temporarily close his practice and do whatever research was necessary to prove that the story he had heard about Jesus was, in fact, a true story. The research that resulted from his adventure was written down for the donor, and preserved by God for all who want to know the truth. Today, we call that research The Gospel of Luke.
